Inspiron 1545 Vertical lines on display - bad screen connection?

We are big dell users with about 10 Dell PCs and laptops at home.

On one, an Inspiron 1545, has started showing a normal display, but with some vertical coloured bars at the left hand side several pixels wide, and another vertical line about 2" in from the left which is a single pixel width. The colours of the lines vary, and most of them disappear if the screen is pivoted on the screen. I found that gentle twisting of the display (and I am talking very light pressure here) lets most of the lines disappear, but they come back again as soon as I release the screen.

When I say that the line goes away, I mean that it shows a normal display colour (not just black).

The laptop has been taken care of, is only used at home and has not been abused.

Is this going to be down to a bad panel, bad connector or something else?
